Transtracheal
Oxygen Therapy
Definition
Transtracheal oxygen therapy is a superior method of delivering
oxygen directly into the lungs by way of a small, flexible catheter
which passes from a small opening in the lower neck into the trachea
(windpipe).
For many individuals, transtracheal oxygen is
more effective in getting oxygen into the blood than nasal cannula.
It is also more efficient because it gets the oxygen right into the
lungs where it is needed.
